"Simply put, when there is no homebirth in a society or when homebirth is driven completely underground, essential knowledge of a woman's capacity in birth is lost to the people of that society - to professional caregivers, as well as to the women of childbearing age themselves."
- Ina May Gaskin

the most important thing to remember
about the natural cascade of hormones during childbirth is that:

"The Mother needs to
feel private, safe and unobserved"

Homebirth is one of the options you have when considering where to give birth. Birthing at home is not only safe for most women, it is also a wonderful way to bring your baby into the world. There are several things to consider about your birth options; being well informed is key. Find out more.

Postnatal
The postnatal period for both mother and baby is a critical time for matresence, bonding, establishing breastfeeding, becoming a family and making sure mothers are well and taken care of so they can address the mammoth task of nourishing the mother-baby dyad.

NEW BIRTHINGS OUT NOW! ISSUE #140

The new issue of Birthings E-Magazine comes to us at an auspicious time - as we release our new Homebirth NSW website! And a challenging time as we all face big changes in our lives due to COVID-19.

This issue we’ll be exploring the theme Labour of Love. A ‘labour of love’ is a task done for pleasure, not for reward. In society today, birth is so often framed around being all for the reward(s) at the end: the oxytocin high, the beautiful baby, the feeling of accomplishment and empowerment of giving birth! It’s so often thought of as something you just have to go through to get the rewards at the end, and yet some women really do and can take pleasure in the actual experience of giving birth! Read within for stories of this, and from birth workers about their labours of love.

A labour of Love, from us to you!

Calmbirth® is Australia’s most highly acclaimed, recommended, TRUSTED and scientifically
proven childbirth education program.
Calmbirth® was the first childbirth education program in Australia to recognise the interrelationship between the mind and body in childbirth – the connection and power between a woman’s emotional statevand the way her body responds in birth. Calmbirth® uses this mind-body connection to
assist couples to replace the fear, stress and anxiety about giving birth with the knowledge and skills to birth their baby calmly, fearlessly, safely and confidently.
